Stitched Stones
The act of stitching on a felted stone is meditative for me and yields an object that begs to be held. I start with a rounded stone gathered from walks along the lake shore or back road, and encapsulate it in wool I’ve dyed myself by wet-felting it. After it has dried, I sit down to stitch. My stitching is intuitive and inspired by textures found in nature. Often I will trap smaller pebbles or beads in the stitches. The weight of the stone, texture of the stitches, and softness of the wool make the object soothing in the hand.
